“Kubrat worked with me for one semester of probability and I could not be more thankful for him. I am taking this course at a very rigorous institution and most of my classmates have no idea what’s going on with the majority of the problems, including me. This class is not the typical calculus class where we learn how to take an integral with various methods. For each homework, half of the problems are pretty much hell. These problems could have a triple summation with tons of factorials, inductions with pascal’s triangle, various probabilistic distributions and tons of integrals, and those quirky limit theorems that there is no way we would understand how to use without a huge amount of practice. When my classmates are pulling all-nighters begging the teaching assistants to give them a slight hint, all they got is “well, we want you to think about that,” Kubrat saved me out of the hell. He has a very succinct teaching philosophy that in order to understand a type of problem, students have to be shown how to do such a problem once, which is something that most of the classes lack. We go to class, learn a theory, and then the homework asks us to use the theory to solve problems - it may sound reasonable, but it’s evil. For example, in class, our teacher would derive the central limit theorem for us and ask us to evaluate a distribution with CLT in the homework. There is no way on earth an average student can figure it out without seeing how CLT is ever used. Kubrat really taught me how to use and apply the theorems we learned. Following such a note, every time we discover an answer to a problem, Kubrat always blows my mind. I started appreciating probability so much more with his words of wisdom. A common exponential decay can be interpreted as no memory loss, sets can be thought of as light bulbs, and hugely long expressions can be arranged into a single natural log. Almost every lesson I made some unexpected realizations. He really gives me a new perspective on math. Since Wyzant is an online platform, I think it’s worth mentioning that he possesses the best qualities that online tutors should have, but most of them don’t have such qualities. He is very on time, and he doesn’t waste time. There was not a single lesson that was slow-paced. He is always prepared before the lesson. In addition, he is just incredibly smart. I am commenting not just from a student's perspective. Education-wise, I come from an intense university but I don’t think there is anyone around me that I know of who is as keen and intelligent as Kubrat. If you’ve ever heard of people talking about another prodigy they know getting a Ph.D. at a young age, Kubrat is very well one of them. All in all, with Kubrat no regret!”
