“Julie is an amazing tutor! I worked with Julie for an entire year, through 2 semesters of general chemistry in college (Chem 1A and 1B). I previously took Honors Chemistry in high school a long time ago but when I signed up for Chem 1A in college, I was scared and felt extremely unprepared. Over the break before the semester started, Julie designed a 6-week “crash course” in chemistry to help me re-learn fundamental concepts and introduce me to new topics. Before starting our lessons, she asked me which textbook we used and came up with a curriculum and custom-made worksheets that matched the textbook. For each lesson, she would send me a worksheet in advance to guide me through the material. If I solved problems outside of our lessons, I would send her a picture of my solution, and she would reply with my graded work within a few hours. In just 6 weeks, meeting twice a week, we were able to cover molar ratios, lewis structures and molecular geometry, stoichiometry, balancing reactions, thermodynamics, the gas laws, etc. I met with Julie 2x a week every week that semester and got an A in Chem 1A! Julie’s teaching techniques, like emphasizing important topics from the textbook, mnemonics and setups for problems (ICE table, BCA table, dimensional analysis), and demonstration of how to solve problems, were very useful when I actually took the class. They made me super prepared and also helped form my own study habits. I signed up for Chem 1B the following semester and had already built up my confidence, but I asked Julie to do another crash course with me during the break. This time we did a 2-month “summer boot camp”, and were able to go more in-depth on Chem 1B topics, like aqueous solution stoichiometry, titrations and buffers, equilibrium, kinetics, and more thermodynamics. The concepts were more complex and required a holistic understanding of topics covered previously. Again, Julie was able to help me learn the material by presenting it in an approachable way. I ended up scoring a perfect 100% on every test in Chem 1B! As an added bonus, I knew how to solve the assigned problems well before the topics were covered in lecture, so I was able to practice relevant problems on my own multiple times before each test, even when I didn’t have a tutoring lesson scheduled that week. I’m so happy to have gotten A’s in both Chem 1A and Chem 1B thanks to Julie’s help. I truly feel that I’ve mastered the material and even feel confident enough to major in chemistry (even though I declared computer science lol). I would recommend Julie to anyone studying chemistry, she’s simply the best!”
