“I'm a community college student who had to sign up for a calculus 2 summer course at the last second, and after the first class meeting with the professor, I really thought I'd just have to drop the class. None of the material made sense, combined with the crazy pacing for the curriculum and my professor's very thick accent, and I was ready to fail before I had even started. After my first meeting with Joyce, for the first time, I had a feeling that I actually understood the work I was doing. I was genuinely hopeless about that class, but after one meeting I instantly felt like I would be able to pass it. I really only gathered maybe 20-30% of the information taught in class, then often in as little as an hour, Joyce would teach me the remaining multiple chapters worth of material until I truly felt confident I could pass the upcoming test. It really felt like a guarantee that I would be ready for the tests as long as I could schedule a meeting or two with Joyce beforehand. She was very patient and helped me understand what I was doing right, as well as wrong. Joyce always wrote out notes as I followed along, which she provided after the meetings, and even offered video recommendations and further practice material for outside of meetings. She was always responsive and easy to reach, and was always willing to answer questions outside of meetings as well. Truly a great tutor, especially for people receiving one-on-one tutoring for the first time, and I would highly recommend.”
