My son attends a boarding highschool for gifted children. He was never a great test taker. He took the SAT when he was 12yrs old and pretty much didn't increase his score once he started high school at 13 as a sophomore. He had a math tutor from the same website who helped explain math concepts but he was still staying pretty much at the same level. So when our son took his first test, and realized despite mastering Kahn and practice tests - there was content he just didn’t know on the real SAT, we knew we needed help. “My high school daughter has a pre-calculus teacher whose method of teaching is to hand homework assignments to the students without first going over the underlying material in class, then to quiz them without going over the homework. He has refused to clarify the material when asked prior to the quizzes. As you might imagine, for many students this has led to poor grades because if you can’t do thge homework then you can’t do well on the quizzes. There is no text book that the students can reference, they are just supposed to figure it out on their own. This has caused a considerable amount of stress for my daughter, who is typically a very good student. With one session with Abigail the stress was gone, and my daughter was saying that Abigail is providing exactly what she was looking for—someone to explain the underlying material so that she can do the work. My daughter is feeling more positive about her ability to do the work and raise her grade. While it disturbs me that I have pay for a tutor simply because my daughter’s class is run by a teacher who doesn’t actually teach, I have to say that I feel very fortunate that we have found Abigail. She is worth every penny. She is very responsive to emails, it has been incredibly easy to schedule sessions, and my daughter says that Abigail explains things in a way that she can understand.
